Razon promotes cop in shootout with thieves

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

Page: 1

He had survived for the fourth time but Senior Police Officer 4 Antonio Espadero of the Manila Police District is willing to risk his life anytime to protect the citizenry he vowed to serve.

The courage of Espadero of the MPD Station 3 was not left unnoticed as Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr. ordered the spot promotion to one rank higher – police inspector. Aside from the spot promotion, Razon also said that the PNP will shoulder the hospital expenses of SPO4 Antonio Espadero who was shot and wounded by three robbers whom he accosted in Quiapo, Manila on Feb. 8.

Espadero was shot three times in the mouth by one of the robbers but miraculously the bullets merely stuck in his tongue and did not inflict serious damage. He was also shot in the body.

Razon vowed to personally coordinate with the National Police Commission (Napolcom) for Espadero’s promotion. Napolcom is the government agency in-charge of the promotion of police officers.

Espadero was on his way to work on board a public utility vehicle at around 7:30 p.m. when he spotted an apparent robbery incident in an FX taxi. He alighted from the PUV and accosted the holdup men. But one of the robbers suddenly approached Espadero, poked a .45 caliber pistol on his mouth and fired three shots. Although wounded, Espadero managed to pull out his service firearm and shot one of the robbers in the head and died on the spot.

The other robbers shot Espadero at the back but the bullet exited and miraculously did not inflict serious damage. The two other robbers managed to escape.

The Feb. 8 incident was the fourth time near-death encounter of Espadero. He said the first was in 1995 when he passed by a robbery incident in a Kowloon store also in Manila. He was also wounded but eventually recovered from the incident.

Espadero, who has been in the police service for 24 years, said his faith to the Lord and his belief to the Lord of Pardon was his secret weapon in surviving all the near-deadly encounters. He showed to Razon his Lord of Pardon prayer booklet when he was given award during the Talakayan sa Isyu ng Pulis (TSIP), a weekly forum sponsored by the PNP.

The courageous policemen still had the stitches in his tongue which he showed to media during interview.

Aside from being a devotee of the Lord of Pardon, Espadero credited his prayerful wife for his fortune to survive encounter with criminals. “Lagi po nya akong ipinagdadasal,” Espadero said of his wife. Espadero was with his wife Shirley and children Vanessa and Ericson.

Razon also announced that the PNP will reimburse all the hospital expenses of Espadero, and other monetary benefits for policemen who risked their lives and limbs during their tours of duty. – Cecille Suerte Felipe

“I” the VICTIM (of SMART COMMUNICATION)

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

This morning while on I’m my way to Boni Avenue Manadaluyong, on or about 10:25 A.M, I realize I can’t reply to a text messages. I then tried calling the two different person that send me the text message but the tape recorded message keep telling me “that all lines are busy now please try your call later”. Those failed text messages gave me the notice that it failed because I must subscribe to the network.

I just thought that maybe the Smart Communication system is having a temporary network problem so I leave it as it is and think of replying later.

Arriving at MRT (North EDSA) terminal I realize that I am the only one that seem to be disconnected to the outside world. Every people around me are using their cellphone. I can’t help myself thinking that maybe all these people are using Sun Cellular network or Globe Network so I casually ask a male passenger beside me what network he is subscribe to. “Smart” was his fast reply!

Oh! No, my District Manager already complain to me last Monday that his Smart Sim (Postpaid too like mine) has been re-directed and he experience not being able to make a phone call or even reply to a text message (but he can receive text messages and incoming calls). It was a Sunday so next day, Monday he have to rush to a Smart Wireless Center located near our branch to settle the matter.

By the time I realize that this must be happening to me also, I notice my D.M. is calling me asking my whereabouts and following up on the development of certain report. I have received 10 text messages that I can’t reply to. Two Co-B.M. waiting for my call but I can’t told them my predicament at the moment.

After I concluded my business I immediately proceeded to SM Megamall, but luck of all luck, their computer is down and the nearest Smart Wireless is in Shangrila Plaza. A good 5-10 minute walk from them. Here I realize what happen as explain to me by their CSR P. Chingcuangco(hope I got the name right), a certain Tyrone Enriquez updated my record and made the mistake of making my credit line “0”(zero). That explained my Re-direction of service and the reason why I can’t make outgoing text and calls. I have to pay my current bill of P 1,960.00 to be able to restore my current status. Just imagine I am subscribing to Plan P 1,800.00 and my Credit line will be “Zero”. My previous and supposed to be credit line is P 11,000.00 as reflected in my December billing statement.

It was already 3:30 P.M. when my outgoing service was re-connected by Smart and the CSR on their hotline (*888) told me a different story:

“Their computers are updating all good paying customers and have increased their Credit line and they are very sorry for the mistake that was done on my account. “ “Mr. Tyrone Enriquez is the one who corrected the error””There was no human intervention during the updating process”

Are these people pulling my legs? How many Smart Communication subscribers have suffered the same faith that I have?

Sir Welly- Thank You So Much!

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Having been working for the past 21 years in my current company have somehow given me an impression that I already knew all our Superiors.

There was a time (Every other Thursday), when I would be invited and be one of those few-selected Branch Manager who would join our Executive Committee members in the selection process of samples to be ordered. Oh my! The experience is really nerve wrecking exhilarating but often times funny when one or two of our AVP would crack jokes.

But that is not the main topic of this story.

Last Wednesday (February 13) my Branch Store Supervisor informed me through text that a gift was sent by our Sir Welly Dy (SAVP –BC/GA & OIC –IG) for me. That day I was somewhere in Ortigas attending to a personal business matter.

I was able to talk to Sir Welly last week and I remember greeting him, and for him to have Prosperous Chinese New Year.

Sir Welly is a very busy person, very humble and one of the few I have known to be so down to earth Superior. To think that he was able to think of me and gave me a gift is somewhat morale boosting for me. I tried to call him the next day with the purpose of thanking him but he is indisposed at that time attending the Ex-Com meeting.

It is a bottle of perfume. Oh! I love the smell of it, seems to be so cool and the scent of fresh pine tress are all over you.

Sir, Thank you and may the good Lord always bless you as always.

Chichen,the Culprit

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Thursday morning, February 14, my third child Melvin approached me and told me if it is alright if he will absent himself from school for he is not feeling well. This son of mine is not in the habit of skipping school so I casually ask him the reason why?

He showed me a lump (Bukol) between his scrotum and the anus and minor sores or blisters in his behind. I thought it is a normal sores he got because of his P.E. which is swimming and the lump as boil ( pigsa) so I ask him what medicine he is using for those sores and just tell him to rest.

The next day when I found out that he is still not feeling so decided to bring him to a Doctor for proper diagnoses.

Melvin is my special kids who have grown up to be a very nice gentleman. Every morning, when he has classes to attend to, he never forgets to ask me if I wanted coffee and he would prepare one for me just before going to school. Why special? Please read the link here.

The Doctor told us that the sores were the effect of Chicken fox he got when he was still a child and showed or manifested now. He prescribe a cream (P400.00 @) for the sores and the pill for the pain.

Chicken pox is caused by a virus. Many researchers believe
that the disease is closely related to a much more serious
condition known as shingles or herpes zoster that affects
adults. The basic cause of the disease, as in most cases of
childhood fevers, is however, persistent wrong feeding of
children, which results in diminished defence mechanisms of
the body.

Having a 5 grown up kids somehow gives you a feeling that your help being a father is not needed anymore. When times like this happen, although scary, I would alway remember when they were young and we would bring them to their pediatrician for check up or for vaccine. This I failed to give him one maybe due to escalating expense that we were having at that time.

Now I feel relieve that Melvin will be on his way to recovery and can attend his classes anytime soon.

Obsolete Love Card!

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Long ago, (matagal nay yun ha!), we used this card to test if our “crush” had a lovey-dovey feeling for us. Ah! High School days!

In this age and time of “texting” generation this is now considered obsolete!!!

Front of card

To: (name of recipient)

Three words I need to say,

But I can’t say it to you:

That’s why I hand you these,

To tell you these three words:

“I LOVE YOU”

From: (you)

Back of card

To: (name of recipient)

If you love me, just keep this

If not just send this back to me.

If within 3 days you did not

Return this to me,

It means

“YOU LOVE ME”

From: (you)

This had been in my save file for at least three months that I only manage to see today and I thought of sharing with you!

A Threat For All Blogger’s

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

This morning while blog hopping I came about Paulo Martinez website discussing about his experience when his website was hacked and how he overcome it, I thought of sharing this with you with a link to his site.

My daughter’s website was also hacked during the later part of 2007 which brought here a couple of sleepless night. Saw here in tears and I thought she was having a personal problem and I am ready to listen but the culprit is these son@#$ hacker.

Here is the story:

Cross Script Hacking - A Threat For All Bloggers

For days, my blog has been infected by a trojan virus. I was not aware of it until entrecard.com informed me that they have to remove my site from their network because of a trojan virus was found. I really got panicked! It was like the whole world fell down into me.

I contacted my host to help me remove the virus and with their help, I’ve learned a lot about the situation.

The attack is called as cross scripting hacking which can be done from any part of the world via browser just because of the possible reasons:

1) Old versions of php application and not upgraded
2) Weak php code in custom pages
3) Unwanted permissions like 755 or 777 on the directories and files.

This type of hacking was caused due to the following methods:

1) The attacker finds a hole in your users local PHP script, html scripts, javascripts etc.
2) The inject their own PHP, java, html code from a remote file making it run as if they
upload the page by regular FTP.
3) There are numerous ways you can easily collect the usernames of accounts if your account is insecure.
4) You can start to then brute guess passwords of user accounts
5) You can then start scouring the server for local exploits and use them to your advantage.

The hacker will check to see if wget, gcc and other system binaries are on the system and are accessible to use.

6) With a list of whats installed and what they can use, they can now download hacks and
start trying to crack your account and compiling code attempting to gain root, etc.
7) They can search any and all 777 permission files/directories and inject whatever they
feel like.

To solve the problem, my host advised me to re-upload my site to overwrite the infected files.

I also found out that the IP which are found are from Ukraine. And it’s already blocked on my host’s server. But the attack is taking place by changing the IP’s so they still told me to fix the permissions and upgrade the PHP applications.

My site is ok now and thanks to god I got rid of that virus! My thanks also to Nicola of the support team from 3ix.com.

Thanks Paulo for this very informative post!
