A Review from Voice of Bragg

Voice of Bragg

Let me Thank Randy of Voice of Bragg for posting a review about this site. I really appreciate the time and effort he spends just to make a review of this humble site.

Being a newbie in this art of blogging, I have to learn a lot of things on a limited time because I have a regular work schedule to follow. I believe that there are times this site came out with topics that made me out of focus.

Thanks Randy for those constructive criticisms that you had given me. Rests assure that I would make necessary changes as soon as I can. Have to exert more effort in learning HTML!

Have a nice day Randy and may your tribe increase!

My Diabetes Milletus

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Second phase of my struggle:

self injecting man injecting self

Two weeks have past since I was given by my Doctor new drugs to test if oral medication would still work for my type two diabetes milletus.

Bad news came crashing to me yesterday afternoon (As I expected), as my Doctor explained to me that we have to try the slow acting insulin for one week. Yes I have to learn by myself the art or injecting insulin!

Insulin is usually taken as subcutaneous injections by single-use syringes with needles, an insulin pump, or by repeated-use insulin pens with needles.

It is with God’s blessing that my sister-in-law who is practising Nurse in Kuwait just came back here on a one month paid vacation. She explained to my second eldest daughter who is on her third year as a Nursing student how it is being done. Of course they have already taken this up in school and she will put her knowledge now in actual practice. Oh poor me!

I was given Humulin N, sterile suspension and for subcutaneous injection only.

Today, this morning I would be given my first shot. Searching the internet, what my sister-in-law told me is the same as what I have found out here:

Source:Rx List

  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Carefully shake or rotate the bottle of insulin several times to completely mix the insulin.
  3. Inspect the insulin. Humulin N suspension should look uniformly cloudy or milky. Do not use Humulin N if you notice anything unusual in its appearance.
  4. If using a new Humulin N bottle, flip off the plastic protective cap, but do not remove the stopper. Wipe the top of the bottle with an alcohol swab.
  5. If you are mixing insulins, refer to the “Mixing Humulin N and Regular Human Insulin” section below.
  6. Draw an amount of air into the syringe that is equal to the Humulin N dose. Put the needle through rubber top of the Humulin N bottle and inject the air into the bottle.
  7. Turn the Humulin N bottle and syringe upside down. Hold the bottle and syringe firmly in one hand and shake gently.
  8. Making sure the tip of the needle is in the Humulin N suspension, withdraw the correct dose of Humulin N into the syringe.
  9. Before removing the needle from the Humulin N bottle, check the syringe for air bubbles. If bubbles are present, hold the syringe straight up and tap its side until the bubbles float to the top. Push the bubbles out with the plunger and then withdraw the correct dose.
  10. Remove the needle from the bottle and lay the syringe down so that the needle does not touch anything.
  11. If you do not need to mix your Humulin N with Regular human insulin, go to the “Injection Instructions” section below and follow the directions.

I have to monitor and get my blood glucose level before breakfast (Before injecting insulin) and before dinner for 1 week. If my blood glucose level should become too low or hypoglycemic, I have to call her immediately.

Symptoms of mild to moderate hypoglycemia may occur suddenly and can include:
• sweating
• dizziness
• palpitation
• tremor
• hunger
• restlessness
• tingling in the hands, feet, lips, or tongue
• lightheadedness
• inability to concentrate
• headache
• drowsiness
• sleep disturbances
• anxiety
• blurred vision
• slurred speech
• depressed mood
• irritability
• abnormal behavior
• unsteady movement
• personality changes
Signs of severe hypoglycemia can include:
• disorientation
• unconsciousness
• seizures
• death

Therefore, it is important that assistance be obtained immediately.

I have to take three full meals a day and two snacks.

Well, as the saying goes,”The show must go on”. Live life to the fullest and live everything yo God!

March,Month of Graduation Day!

Monday, March 24th, 2008

graduation

March is the month of Graduation. Supposedly, a month dedicated for the joyous celebration for most graduating student and their parents.

But for my nephew, the son of my Sister-in-Law this would be his nth time to set this momentous occasion on another date and time.

I am equally dis-appointed as his parents for I have known him to be a bright boy during his elementary days. He was even studying on a scholarship grant in Xavier School located in Greenhills, up to his 6th grade until her mother decided to transfer him in a school near to their place of residence.

He is already 25 years of age and had shifted from two different courses until he thought Nursing would be his final degree to take. He have used up the educational plan in studying in an exclusive school but never graduate.

This year, I mean this time he made another promise to his sister (who is working in Singapore) that he would graduate next semester. Both his parents are losing hope that he would eventually graduate but keeping their fingers cross.

I can’t blame his parents because he already made a lot of promises and broke them all.

What seem’s to be the problem?

Once, I was asked by his parents to talk to him and if possible to find out what is the problem or the real reason behind his attitude.

As I realize during our discussion, he knows what is the problem but he is not doing anything. He just made a promise (again) to make his studies his priority. He even shed tears saying how sorry he was and for me to talk to her mother to give him another chance,

According to her mother, he plays the computer up to the wee hours of the next morning. These had been their source of dis agreement and confrontation in the past until she gave up.

Are parents to blame in this situation?

Anybody out there who can share a solution or have similar story to tell?

Would my nephew eventually graduate next semester?

This we would find out like a tele-novela in the months to come!

For Entrecard members!Drop Faster,Easier!

entrecard

I thought this is worth sharing to all Entrecard members who like me have a very limited time in front of a computer reading other blogs and at the same time dropping the card.

This site “Mymytech” by Daniel, a 17 year old student is worth watching.

Using this “Entrecard Opener” enable me for the first time to drop 300 card today.

Copy starts here:

Entrecard is one of the popular tool that many webmasters use to advertise and socialize upon their sites.

Basically, the more you drop, the more credits you’ll get to advertise. So we all know that the daily limit’s 300, but do we really want to click each individual sites to drop? Not really.

There are many Entrecard Browsers out there, but I believe that this method would be more efficient.

I’ve compiled a script to allow random Entrecard members’ sites to open, so that you can drop as fast as possible.

To get to the point, here’s my suggestion to get through this fast:

  1. Open up “Entrecard Site Opener
(It will first direct to mymyTech, I would appreciate if you can drop on the way)
  2. Press “Start+W” multiple times depending on how fast each site opens up (If slow, fewer / If fast, more)
  3. Look for “Drop yours”, Click
  4. As soon as you see “Thanks!”, press “Ctrl+W” to close the tab.
  5. Keep doing ‘em until you hit 300 with patience~

Tip: I’ve purposely made site opening hotkey to be “Start+w” so that you only have to move your thumb in opening/closing sites.

It will first open up mymyTech, so please help me out with drops as well =)

End of copy.

Visit his site now and download Entrecard Opener- Please clickHERE

Are you a Baclaran Redemptorist Church Devotee?

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

BaclaranBcl

Yesterday, Wednesday (March 19, 2008) I decided to go to Baclaran and visit one of our regular and good paying customers. The owner usually personally man her store during these days so I decided to personally talked to her for collection and follow up orders. I would also tell her our up coming sales promo that would run for 1 week starting March 24 up to month end.

After completing my business I decided to pass and drop by the famously known Baclaran Redemptorist Church to attend the mass and Novena. My timing is good for the Mass is just starting.

The faithful have made the Redemptorist Church a regular place for prayer and contemplation. Baclaran is easily one of the outstanding landmarks in Metro Manila. It is noted for the Wednesday Novenas at the shrine of our Mother of Perpetual Help National Shrine of the Redemptorist Church. Every Wednesday more or less 10,000 people from all walks of life converge at the church to attend the novena. It is without argument the most attended church in Asia.

After the Mass and Novena, I decided to drop by our Branch Store nearby to discuss with the Branch Manager of our upcoming meeting this coming Tuesday. At the office while discussing with the manager, one of her staff came in and interrupted us to tell her one bad news. The enveloped she was holding was snatched by motorcycle riding man in tandem. The enveloped contains one ATM card of Banco De Oro Bank and two utility bills supposed to be paid for that day. It is a good thing that she was not able to withdraw in the other ATM machine and decided to go to Banco de Oro bank instead. She was supposed to withdraw Ten Thousand pesos.

I am also a Banco De Oro depositor so I took out my ATM card and called the hotline (1-800-10-6318000) number listed at the back for her to report the incident and for proper action by the bank.

No they didn’t bother to report this incident to the police for they believe that this is only an exercise in futility. The police in Baclaran never solve crimes like this that is why this is now the newest business that is thriving in that area of metropolis.

This is a warning to all readers out there, if you are planning to hear Mass and Novena at Baclaran Redemtorist church, just be aware of your surroundings.

Don’t be another victim!

Diabetes Millitus

Monday, March 17th, 2008

blood testing

Saturday, March 15,2008 I went to Healthway located at SM North EDSA, the Block building to get my medical results and to consult with Dra. Ma. Leila A. Alberto Ilagan, my doctor, about my Diabetes Mellitus (Type 2).

After analyzing the results, my medicines were changed and I was told that if my sugar level refuses to go down and can’t still control by these new drugs, I would have to use insulin.

As per her explanation, my body seems not to react to my medicine and the use of insulin is the best alternative to prevent another complication especially on my kidney.

Honestly, I am at a lost of words to say at that instance. I am just praying that this last recourse would work out.

Anyway, the lists below were what she had given me the last time we met but I failed to post here. For readers who might also be suffering from type 2 Diabetes.

Basic Dietary Guidelines for Type 2 Diabetes
Source: Palo Alto Medical Foundation

The nutritional goals of meal planning for the diabetic diet are to achieve and maintain at least a 5 to 10 percent weight loss if an individual is overweight, to control blood sugar and lipids (cholesterol and triglycerides), and how to prevent delay the complications associated with diabetes. Below are tips to control your diabetes.

Limit foods high in sugar. They can dramatically increase your blood glucose levels.
• Limit added in the diet, including granulated, brown, powdered and raw sugar. Honey, syrup and molasses are also sugar, and consumption should be reduced.
• Limit foods high in sugar, such as cake, cookies, candy, pie, pastries, ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet, pudding, jam/jelly, donuts, sweet rolls, sweet muffins, flavored gelatin and sweetened canned fruit.
• Avoid soft drinks (diet soda is OK), fruit juices and fruit drinks.
• Read food labels and look out for added sugar, such as corn syrup, sucrose, dextrose, fructose, honey, invert sugar, etc. You may use artificial sweeteners in moderation, such as aspartame (Nutrasweet or Equal), saccharine (Sweet ‘n Low) or Sucralose (Splenda).

Include carbohydrate foods in moderation
• Blood sugar is affected primarily by foods containing carbohydrates. The main sources of carbohydrates in the diet are starch, fruit and milk. Although these foods do not contain refined sugar, they can still have a dramatic effect on the blood sugar.
• Examples of starch include bread, pasta, rice, tortillas, cereal, crackers, and starchy vegetables such as potatoes, corn, beans, and lentils. However, most other vegetables are non-starchy and have only a minimal effect on blood sugar.

Choose high-fiver, whole grain starches
• Replace refined grains such as white rice, bread and pasta with whole grains such as brown rice, whole-wheat pasta, whole grain bread, peas and lentils.

Do not eliminate carbohydrates.
• Eating fruits, starch and milk are part of a healthy diet, and eating these foods in moderation should not cause your blood glucose to rise too high.

Spread out carbohydrates into three small meals and three carbohydrates snacks.
• Every time you eat carbohydrates, your blood glucose begins to rise reaching its peak approximately one hour after you start your meal. The more carbohydrates you eat or snack, the higher your blood glucose will rise. Therefore, you should spread out your carbohydrates into small, frequent amounts.

Choose fruit for snacks.
• One small to medium piece of fruit the size of tennis ball or one-half to three fourth a cup of cut-up fruit can be used as a quick and easy snack. Choose fresh fruit whenever possible. Try to include three servings of fruit a day.

Increase your consumption of vegetables.
• Be liberal with your intake of vegetables. Most vegetables are low in calories and carbohydrates, and can be used whenever you are hungry between meals and to help fill you up at mealtime. Include at least three servings a day. (One serving equals one-half a cup of cooked or 1 cup or raw vegetables).

Keep the amount of carbohydrates consistent at each meal and snack.
• Keeping the quantity of carbohydrates consistent at each meal and snack will keep your blood glucose consistent. Work with your registered dietitian to determine how much carbohydrates your body will tolerate to normalize blood sugar levels.

Meal Timing.
• Space meals and snacks evenly. Optimally, meals should be eaten five hours apart. Meals and snack should be eaten two to three hours apart.
• Meals and snacks should be consumed at consistent times, especially if you are taking insulin or certain diabetes medications to lower your blood glucose.

Do not skip meals.
• If you are taking certain diabetes medications to lower your blood glucose or are in insulin, do not skip meals. Otherwise, you are at risk of a low blood sugar reaction (hypoglycemia).

Maintain acceptable weight for your age and height.
• If you are overweight and have type 2 diabetes, weight loss can not only improve your blood glucose dramatically or eliminate your need for diabetes medication or insulin.
• Even a modest weight loss of 10 to 15 pounds can have a major benefit on improving blood glucose levels.

Eat less fat and cholesterol. This will help you manage your blood cholesterol and triglycerides levels, and achieve or maintain desirable body weight.
• Eat smaller portion of meat. Choose lean cuts of red meat, fish and skinless poultry. Healthy meat substitutes include low- fat or non-fat cottage cheese, egg whites and tofu products.
• Limit use of cold cuts, hot dogs, sausage, bacon, egg, yolks, cheese and organ meats.
• Reduce your consumption of added fats, particularly saturated sources such as butter, stick margarine, shortening, cream sauces, cream cheese, sour cream, meat drippings, whole milk, or cheese based salad dressings and coconut. Substitute non-fat or low-fat milk or yogurt for high –fat dairy products.
• Substitute monounsaturated fats for saturated fats, including olive, canola and peanut oils; avocado; nuts; and natural peanut butter or other nut butters. As a second choice, you can also replace saturated fats with polyunsaturated fats such as corn, sunflower and safflower oils; trans fat free margarine; mayonnaise, and commercially prepared oil based salad dressings.
• Use less fat in cooking. Bake, broil, boil or simmer instead of frying or sautéing. Remove all skin from poultry, and fat from meat, prior to cooking.
• Alcohol consumption can significantly increase your triglyceride levels. If you do drink alcohol, please discuss with you physician to determine if this is appropriate.
Hope this could be of help to others as well!
