Renovation Story

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Just recently a relative that has been living in the USA for quite sometime emailed me regarding the house and lot that she had purchased. She sent me two pictures of before and after the renovation. The story included!

I knew that from the start this cousin of mine is very intelligent and witty young woman. She will never purchase a thing without first assessing the real value of the property.

So to make the story short, she asked for advised what is the best option available to her when she finally decided to have an improvement in the house and later on have it re-sell for a much higher price.

Another cousin who is also living there reminded her about the California construction law. As the saying goes, it is better safe than sorry.

Of course, those concerned personnel professionally handled the usual problem in the renovation of houses that crops up every now and then.

The project was finished on time without a wrinkle so to speak.

Did she make the right decision? The answer was in the amount she made after having the property re-sold plus peace of mind she did have.

Another felt good story worth re-telling.

Translator

Friday, June 13th, 2008

My latest post before this is written in Taglish (a combination of Tagalog and English word). It is because “Tagalog” is my native language and I find it more comfortable expressing in it. Besides I have seen a lot of Pinoy website who have successfully used the medium with great effect.

So I said to myself why not try it and join the fun. Then while Entrecard drop hopping I saw other websites with a translator on their side bar. But none of them from Tagalog to English.

Now I realize that what I really need is only a few minute of web searching and finding a translation agency that have a track record of success.

Would you believe they could even translate in Ilokano dialect?

They provide written translation in over 130 languages for a variety of translation services such as:

  • Legal Documents and Transcripts
  • Contracts
  • Educational and Instructional Materials
  • Marketing Collatera
  • Forms and Process Documents
  • Product Labels
  • Annual Reports
  • Newspaper and Magazine Articles

Now my only problem is what topic I will write? So please help me out my friends!

My opinion (about Marriage)

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Broken Heart

A close family friend of mine ask my opinion about the marital problem a couple was having. So I wrote him this piece.
Marriage is a union of two distinct individual. You decided to get married for the simple reason that you believe that each one compliment each other. Each one will give strength when one is weak. Give courage when there are sign of hopelessness. In other word you two become one under the eyes of man and with blessing of the Lord.

You alone find each other. Your relatives and friends became a witness to this marriage vow and are all praying for your successful union.

Now you want to surrender your promise of “for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health till death do us part”.

Listening is a start of a good conversation.

Hindi importante kung sino ang tama. Ang mahalag ay kung ano ang tama.

Let Christ be the center of your union and you’ll never be wrong.

Bato-bato sa langit ang tamaan wag magalit.

“I shot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight”. . .

House Rules and News Reports

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

supreme court

As always have been when summer vacation ends and our children are advised to sleep early there are these little arguments. Of course their voices are always heard but what the Commander in Chief (My wife) decides is final and unappealable.

Our house rules are simple: (As approved on the 10th reading)
· Sleeping time is 9:00 pm or earlier during school days.
· Computers are for research and school projects use only during school days. Friday’s and Saturday’s can be used for playing.
· All school expenses must be justifiable and with receipt or invoice.
· Increase in allowance depends on salary increase of the Vice-Commander (that’s me).Transportation expense subject to costing analysis.
· Limit telephone use to only 10 minutes per person at one time. Consecutive use of phone is not allowed whether in-bound or out-bound calls.
· Must always be present during meals, failure to do so would mean reduced in share of viands or possible empty share of dinner/lunch.
· Homework’s must be finished as soon as possible. Preferably after arriving from school or after finishing meal (when needed).
· Watching T.V./DVD is only allowed after finishing homeworks and after doing house chores.
· Wasting of school supplies will be penalized with deduction in computer playing time. Always used and conserve them properly.

Now, friends do you have your own house rules you want to share with me?

Shoes- With Warranty

Monday, June 9th, 2008

ShoesSale

Once in a while we catch a promo that is eye catching and attention grabbing. After all Promos are made to attract buyer’s attention, isn’t it?

This latest promo of ITTI shoes in one of them!

“A first and only in the Shoe industry offered only in ITTI” says the poster.

Then on their display window were selected shoes with triangular yellow card bearing the bold number “3” and the word “warranty”(three months warranty)

Out of curiosity I enter the store and got hold of the shoe with the markings of warranty sticker. As soon as the salesclerk approaches me I asked what does the sticker mean (holding the Warranty Card). Will you replace the damaged shoes? I inquired.

It depends on the nature of damaged but we will surely have it repaired, was the attendant’s reply.

Reading the marking in the shoe it is made from China.

Our country now is being flooded with products made in China. No offense meant but consumers now are wiser. They now prefer to buy shoes made from Marikina even though it is a bit pricey. The reason is comfort and durability.

If I am not mistaken, there’s this company who makes safety shoes and were the first that can claim that they are giving away one-year warranty from date of purchased. Just present your invoice together with the damaged shoes and they will replace it at once. I just forgot the brand name. That is one problem of ageing people like me, hehehe.

Going back to this sales gimmick of ITTI, and knowing how “intelligent” our country men are in terms of “gulang”(street-smart) and “abilidad”(talents), it won’t be long they would remove that promo. Wish I were wrong.

I still remember an incident (almost 8 years ago) when, after our seminar in Nikko Hotel in Makati, five of us participants decided to explore the vicinity and we find one Restaurant that had just finish hanging out their streamer that read “For a Group of Five-1 pitcher of beer free for every order”

True enough, after our initial order of one pitcher the waiter gave us two pitchers. But when we order another pitcher after finishing the first two, the waiter sheepishly told us that the promo is only for the first order. Having friends that are full of ideas could you guest what we do?

We pay our bill then we went out of the restaurant. After a few minutes we came back and order our new pitcher of beer expecting another one free. Now the waiter is scratching his head because he recognized us as the same fellow questioning their promo.

Before we knew it, the streamer was put down and the corrections had been done.

Oh! We got our free beer once more and the Manager of the bar became our friend.

Next time, just be careful with your promos!

My friends maybe are just around the corner and would surprise you!

Happy Saturday!

Sunday, June 8th, 2008
Examination 15-Mar 6-Jun Reference Range/Interval
urine
sugar +4 negative
FBS 14.79 5.2 3.89 - 6.38 mmol/L
HBA1C-DIASTAT 9.8 6.6 3.8 - 7.3%

I was able to get my urine test and blood test result yesterday. I could not contain my joy so I am posting it here.
For the first time in my eight years of being detected with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus I just realize I have learned how to control my blood sugar.

I am so thankful that I met my very good Doctor, Dra. Leila Ilagan of Heathway. The concern and explanation that she had always been given me had open up my mind that Diabetes can be controlled. I had already lost hope and accepted the fact that I can’t manage this disease.
The above test result showed the comparison of my March 15 and June 6.

Thank you Dra. Leila Ilagan. Just wish all doctors would have the time, the energy and the effort to discuss with their patient all those complicated details in layman’s term.

My Perfect Friday

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

lovely day

What a perfect day today, Friday. I didn’t wake up in the night to pee. I have a really good night sleep only to wake up this morning with a busted telephone line and our DSL connection is down.

My in-laws who are my next door neighbor are all soundly so I have to use my cell phone to report this matter to our telephone service provider.

This will not affect me because I had promise myself that I would not let other uncontrollable matter affect me.

This affected my son. Why? It was because today is the day that they could use the computer and it is his turn. He woke up early only to be disappointed. I could feel his anguish. Before we sleep last night they make an agreement that he will be the first one to use our computer this Friday morning. If our DSL connection cannot be repaired as soon as possible he could lose his turn and not able to play on-line games.

But the good side of this is that we could get a refund of P500.00 from our DSL provider once they could not trouble shot this within 24 hours.

Life is truly a blessing only if we knew how to handle everything. Laugh and the whole world laugh at you. Cry and you cry alone.

Let us always think of the Half-full, half-empty principle (Wherein the drinking glass contains half-full of water).

This I told my son. A lesson in life we must learn and practice in our everyday living.

Just before leaving for work, I saw my son now smiling playing an off line game.

Note:This post could have been posted yesterday but Bayantel, our DSL/phone service provider have only restored their connection only this morning.

Land of Serenia

Dyesebel
Photo from Filipino Cultured

Have you been watching Dyesebel? A prime time GMA 7 teleserye that has been my family’s favorite show.

Dyesebel is the mermaid who lives in the World of Sereneia and would turn to be human every time she would remove her necklace made of sea shell. The reverse would happen if she would wear the necklace again.

In the latest episode, she returned to her “under the sea world” due to the belief that Fredo, the love of her life (the reason she wanted to be human) didn’t love her.

Once reunited with her family, she was warned that her life is in danger and that she has to return to the land where she came from and her mission is to look for her mother who, like her, chose to be human.

She was given an apparatus that look like a big clamp with a pearl. She could use it to contact them under the sea. What is unique about this is that it works just like a cell phone equipped with 3G communication. Just like a video phone and no headset is needed.

Other Features:

Dyesebel’s communication unit does not need charger, it is waterproof and the most important feature of it is that it does not need a load. It has no keypad or type pad. No volume control. It is also auto-focus. A perfect example of mind control device that just by thinking somebody, you got connected to her or him. I just don’t know if it is pre-paid or post paid.

Why am I blogging about this? This was because prior to this writing, my children have been begging me to give them money for cell phone load or a pasaload. This children of mine are all comedian. They would ask something in a funny matter.

Theres a lot of time they caught us (me,my wife and their big sister) of guard and giving -in. Now is not the time though.

If you, reader of this blog happens to know somebody selling a clam shell cell phone like that, kindly give me a buzz asap. Please!!!

In the mean time I am making myself busy blogging and turning a deaf ear about their request, hehehe.

Travel to Palawan – For Free

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

SEAIR

I wanted so badly to visit Palawan but my budget would not allow me.

It so happen that Ivan had posted a contest wherein SEAIR would be giving away six airfare gift certificates.

According to him this is the biggest give-away of Ivan About Town and the SEAIR Adventure Club ever!

I have been to Coron, Palawan on a business trip and it took me almost 12 hours of sea travel going to the place. Supper Ferry and Negros Navigation have schedules that travel in that part of Palawan.

I have never been to Busuanga, but from what we all know Palawan is the Philippines version of Paradise. One part of our country that is truly blessed with natural beauty whether in sea or in land unmatched anywhere else.

Travelling via SEAIR would certainly make the vacation more comfortable and enjoyable because I believe they have cut the travel time from an hour and ten minutes to only 35 minutes.

“The Dornier 328 aircraft significantly reduces travel time for tourists, thereby allowing them to maximize their travel schedule and reach Palawan with less hassle. Our passengers will be able to make more fulfilling overnight trips or even day trips to resort destinations in Busuanga and Coron,” said Patrick Tan, VP for Commercial Affairs of SEAIR.

Should I Win?

This would be my family’s perfect bonding time if ever I would win this contest. Precious bonding time with a class because we would be travelling via SEAIR with its Dornier 328 aircraft.

Travel to Palawan – For free! Join the contest now.
