Be wary of hiring “Maid”

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

In today’s news, both the Philippines Daily Inquirer (`Maid` in robbery-`poisoning` nabbed) and Philippine Star (2 women nabbed for poisoning Tsinoy family) carry news story about the arrested maid who poisoned household members to be able to rob their emplyer of valuables and cash.
The modus operandi is for one syndicate member to befriend security guards and asked them to recommend her to people looking for housemaid.
Once employed, she would put poison in the drinks or food of household members who are left at home. Then the robbery would take place.
The suspect, Anamie Livrando, 30 years old and native of Cebu was arrested following a tip from people who saw on television an artist sketch and photo of the suspect caught by a closed circuit television camera by one of the victim.
Hopefully this kind of people would rot in jail. Or if possible, poison her too to give her a dose of her own medicine. Oh, I am only joking though!
What will this people with criminal mind would think of next? Is it really hard nowadays to trust people?
This should serve as a warning for each and every one of us to be wary in hiring of maid. Check and double check their identity or have them secure NBI clearance. It is better to be safe than sorry.

As for me, we have decided long ago (when my wife resigns from her job and decided to take care of our family instead) that we would share responsibilities. (Prior to this decision we have two maids that took care or our daughter and our home.) We scheduled our washing and ironing of clothes including market day. When I am home, it is her off day.
When our children are old enough we taught them simple household work such as sweeping the floor, wiping the table or setting up the table. Then as they grow older the more responsibilities is being taught like cooking, washing and ironing clothes.
My youngest daughter at age 11 then, will never be hungry even left alone because she knows how to cook rice and fry hotdog, egg or even prepare French fries.
Going back to the news report:
For other family that is in real need of maid, kindly share this info for them to be able to cautious in hiring one.
